Our History

The Craft Guild of St. Mary's County was established in 1975 by a group of talented artists with the goal of organizing and operating a retail store right here in the heart of Southern Maryland. 

The original shop was called the "Christmas Country Store" with the name eventually being changed to the "Craft Guild Shop". Over the course of 50 years the location of the store has changed within Leonardtown but the mission and visions of the original founders have remained the same. 

We are a membership-based group who work together as a co-op to promote and preserve the traditions of handcrafting and artistic creativity. 
We have skilled crafters who engage in fabric arts, woodworking, photography, glass work, baking/ culinary specialties, soaps, drawing and much more.

Joining the Guild

If you are a local artist and would like more information about joining the Guild please contact us. Benefits include: 

• retail space to showcase your handmade crafts in our store for a nominal space fee
• invitations to join us at special shows and craft fairs (Crab Fest, St. Mary's Oyster Festival, and more...)
•  climate controlled space for hosting classes and performing demonstrations
• social/ networking opportunities to meet others within the local artistic community
• coverage on our social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, newsletters, website, etc.)
• opportunities to interact with shop customers to build your fan base and clientele
